Channel of the Broken Gun ("A Pathway from Hell" (Channel of the Broken Gun, Head and Empty))

Channel was written while the author was following his alcoholism and addiction into its depths.

Unaware of where he was at the time it was written; David describes an unapologetic life of drinking, using drugs, and using women to fill the large void he felt in his soul.

He describes a certain level of shame and guilt that motivated nearly every action he took while living that life. It is not until the follow up books of Head and Empty where we get a glimpse of his own understanding.

In Channel we are able to watch the tortured human being seek relief from his pain by any means necessary…

Julian Assange. The Whistleblower. Traitor or Hero?

The history of warfare is similarly subdivided, although here the phases

are Retribution, Anticipation, and Diplomacy. Thus:

Retribution:

I'm going to kill you because you killed my brother.

Anticipation:

I'm going to kill you because I killed your brother.

Diplomacy:

I'm going to kill my brother and then kill you on the

pretext that your brother did it…

The Last Lecture

"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand."

--Randy Pausch

A lot of professors give talks titled "The Last Lecture." Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them. And while they speak, audiences can't help but mull the same question: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy?

When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer…

The life of Steve Ballmer is an incredible story of tremendous ambition, genius, arrogance, and charisma, an up-by-the-bootstraps saga of how the child of immigrants growing up in suburban Michigan became the only American billionaire to acquire his wealth working for someone else…
