Barack Obama: The Story David Maraniss: Books

"One of Obama's habits was, and remains, making up stuff to suit his needs. An example of this tendency was the "minor case of literary license involving Obama's memoir; the few paragraphs he devoted to his experiences at B.I. and his descriptions of the office atmosphere were seen as distortions and misrepresentations by many of the people who had worked with him." His job behind enemy lines working for the business community so annoyed him that he gave up his office, his private secretary, his suit and tie and returned to the public sector. He makes a big point of this in his memoirs, but ac

State of Denial: Bush at War, Part III

"Insurgents and terrorists retain the resources and capabilities to sustain and even increase current level of violence through the next year.'' This was the secret Pentagon assessment sent to the White House in May 2006. The forecast of a more violent 2007 in Iraq contradicted the repeated optimistic statements of President Bush, including one, two days earlier, when he said we were at a ''turning point" that history would mark as the time "the forces of terror began their long retreat." State of Denial examines how the Bush administration avoided telling the truth about Iraq to the public, to Congress, and often to themselves…

"State of Denial" by Bob Woodward

The first 8 chapters are setting up the cast of characters. Then the mistakes start flying.I have the greatest sympathy for all men in uniform that have to work for these morons. Some of them would have rather retired or worse than work with Rummmy for very good reason.btw,

The Equation That Couldn't Be Solved

A new book from Mario Livio, author of The Golden Ratio is out. This time, Mario Livio offers an accessible overview of Group Theory, a subject that most people would shy away from. Yet, Mario, as always, manages to bring math, history, and personalities together in an very interesting mix. I cannot recommend this book enough to Geeks and all :-)
